Pillar's ToB Daily Updates - Stage 1
05 Sep 2021
Penzance → Bodmin (180.8km)
Today's Stage:
Today the 2021 Tour of Britain gets underway with the Grand Depart through the Cornish countryside, starting in Penzance and ending in Bodmin. The riders will face a challenging first stage with many sharp climbs included in the opening stage. With a sharp-climb close to the finish, it may be a day for the punchers.
After a fast run into the finish, the peloton will climb a 500m climb which begins with a 13% incline and averages a gradient of 5%. Will the sprinters get over this sharp short climb, or can Wout van Aert take today's stage win and retain the leader's jersey all the way to Aberdeen?
Cycling Fact of the Day:
This year's Tour of Britain is the first time the race has visited Cornwall. It is also the first time that the Cornish based team Saint Piran has taken part in the race.
