Pillar's ToB Daily Updates - Stage 7
11th Sep 2021
Hawick → Edinburgh
Yesterday's Stage:
Wout van Aert makes it a hat-trick of wins as he takes the stage honours on stage six. The Belgian champion outsprinted the race leader Ethan Hayter, closing the overall lead in the GC battle to just four seconds. Ethan Hayter keeps hold of the overall lead and it looks like the battle for the overall classification will come down to the last stage between the two top riders. The world champion Julian Alaphilippe finished third on the day, and he also sits third in the overall race classification.
Today's Stage:
Stage seven finds the riders entering Scotland as the race heads to the finishing line in Edinburgh. Another lumpy stage with 2,518 meters of elevation gain, including three categorised climbs. However, today's stage is slightly flatter than the previous opening days and it may offer a greater opportunity for the sprint teams to control the race.
After a hard day in the breakaway yesterday, can sprinters Mark Cavendish and Dan McLay recover to contend today's stage win. With an easier run into the finish, it could be a day for Ethan Hayter to take the stage win and increase his overall lead.
